Frequently Asked Questions About Giclée Prints

1. What is a Giclée print?

A Giclée print is a high-quality reproduction of artwork made using inkjet printing technology. It uses archival pigment inks and fine art paper, ensuring long-lasting color and detail, making it ideal for collectors.

2. How is a Giclée print different from a regular print?

Unlike standard prints, Giclée prints are made using archival-grade inks and high-resolution printing technology. This ensures better color accuracy, longevity, and a professional finish, similar to the original artwork.

3. How long do Giclée prints last?

With proper care, Giclée prints can last between 100 to 200 years without significant fading, depending on environmental conditions. Using museum-grade paper and archival inks, they are designed for longevity.

4. What type of paper is used for Giclée prints?

Giclée prints are typically printed on high-quality fine art paper such as Hahnemühle Museum Etching or Hahnemühle 200gsm, which provides a textured, durable, and premium surface.

5. How are your prints made?

As of 2024, all of our prints are made in-house. We chose this option to ensure the highest quality, so that we can do rigorous testing until we get the print just right.

6. How should I care for my Giclée print?

To maintain the longevity of your Giclée print:

  • Handle with clean, dry hands or wear cotton gloves.
  • Avoid exposure to direct sunlight or extreme humidity.
  • Frame the print with UV-protective glass or acrylic and use acid-free matting.

7. How should I frame my Giclée print?

It’s recommended to use archival-quality, acid-free materials when framing to further protect the print. UV-protective glass or acrylic is also ideal to prevent fading. Make sure that a border is left around the print in order to not cover the signature.

8. Do Giclée prints come with a Certificate of Authenticity?

Yes, each limited edition Giclée print comes with a Certificate of Authenticity, ensuring that the print is genuine and part of a limited run. Open edition prints may also include a certificate, though without numbering.

9. What’s the difference between an open edition and a limited edition Giclée print?

  • Limited Edition: These prints are produced in a set number of copies (e.g., 21 prints). Each print is signed, numbered, and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
  • Open Edition: These prints are not limited in quantity, though they are still made with the same high-quality materials and inks.
